Objective: To provide specialized medical care in cancer with a comprehensive service focused on diagnosis, prevention (through knowledge of the risk factors on cancer) and their respective outpatient treatment supported by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals to improve the quality of life of our patients.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one third of all cancers are preventable, this prevention is an effective strategy to help reduce the costs of disease and care (including treatment). Therefore, the “Institute for Research and Chronic Disease Prevention, IIPEC, focuses part of its work in dealing with diseases of high prevalence of cancer in the Mexican population as:

Healthy habits not only protect us from cancer but us away from many other diseases, and increase the welfare and improve our physical appearance. What we eat, lack of physical activity, excess sun, environmental pollution, alcohol and snuff are all major risk factors for cancer in front of the genetic predisposition.
With the knowledge of these factors we can intervene positively in at least some of them and reduce the risk of developing a cancer process.
- 30% of all cancer deaths occur because of snuff.
- 90% of people with lung cancer are smokers.
- 40% of deaths from oncological diseases related to obesity and overweight and food.
- Between 50% and 70% of tumors in the skin are associated with the sun.
- The 3.5% of cancer deaths are attributable to alcohol.
The aim of secondary prevention actions is to win the race ahead of cancer, early detection of tumors before they evolve to a malignant state or in the early stages of the disease and especially cancer early diagnosis.
A small percentage (between 5 and 10%) of localized tumors are hereditary. Genetic counseling is some evidence offered to individuals with personal and family histories or suggesting genetic susceptibility to cancer.
